Windsor Castle

We have again been busy…

Last term Class 2 went on a fantastic trip to Windsor Castle. What made it even more exciting was the fact that The Queen was actually in residence at the time! They saw the state apartments and the room with all the coats of arms. This was especially interesting as Class 2 have been learning about their own family’s coat of arms. One child from the village even spotted his family’s coat of arms on the wall! They were also able to take part in a learning session about the castle and had the chance to dress up as knights in armour and learn what they did in the past. Everyone had a great day.

Also last term Class 3 had a special Viking visitor as part of their topic. Thor the Viking was very friendly and informative about the Viking way of life. Amongst other things the pupils learned about how they dressed, worked, cooked, enjoyed music and fought. The children and staff had an amazing day.

This term we have taken part in Fathers’ Story week and the children have loved having their Dads come in to school to join in with our fun. Amongst other things they have joined in with house building, gardening, PE, ICT and storytelling.

Many Dads from the village have taken part and we would like to thank all the Dads for their continued support.

On Thursday 28th April the school celebrated the Royal wedding by dressing up in red, white and blue and taking part in a number of activities including flag decorating, learning about members of the Royal family and hat making. We also really enjoyed decorating the school with bunting and having a special lunch complete with yummy wedding cake!

Our school breakfast club started on 3rd of May and is proving to be a great success. The club runs every day from 8am and the children have been really enjoying eating breakfast together before chatting, playing games and taking part in activities. The club is run by our fantastic school cook Caroline Horan and we would like to thank her for making it something that the children really look forward to.

On Monday 9th May Class 1 enjoyed a trip to the Indian restaurant ‘Jewel in the Crown’ in Swindon as part of their topic ‘All around the World’. They had a great time learning about the spices, folding napkins into their famous crowns, dressing parents in saris and even got to experience cooking in chef’s outfits in their kitchen! We would like to thank the staff at the restaurant for their warm welcome as well as the parents who helped to make the day so successful.

South Marston C of E School News – May 2011

We have again had a very busy term.

We are very pleased to celebrate the fact that pre-school became part of the school on 1st April. We celebrated in real style with a children’s disco night organised by the PTA, which was enjoyed by all. The older children were even able to tuck in to some pizza prepared by our school cook before the event. Thanks to all those who helped organise and supervise the event. It was a huge success!

On 30th March the school had an inter-house cookery competition where a chef came in to support the children in making carrot and orange muffins! They were judged on many elements, including team work and of course the taste of their yummy muffins! All the children who took part, who were chosen at random, enjoyed the event thoroughly and all the children enjoyed being able to take a muffin home.

Our school celebration of talents evening on 6th April was a massive success again this year with all year groups being represented and showcasing a hugely impressive range of talents, ranging from drumming to poetry recitals. This year we introduced an art exhibition which enabled many children to show their talent in this area in the main school hall whilst sipping on something

School Update – November 2010

The latest news from our village school:

We have been very busy this term at South Marston C of E Primary School.

The new children in Reception have made a fantastic start to school, many of whom are from our village. They are really enjoying making new friends and have already started to explore the village on their famous welly walks!

We were all particularly excited about the Mr Men dressing up day on the 21st October and seeing their amazing costumes.

We are looking forward to the start of hot meals being served in the new school dining room after half term. The children have already been wowed by the food they tasted in a special after school tasting session and are excited about trying more of the healthy meals available.

We are in the process of naming the new school dining room and would welcome any suggestions.

Also this term we have already made some important links with other local schools. Class 4 have made a link with Bishopstone Primary School and have enjoyed visiting Swindon Town Football Club together before returning to our school to work together on Maths problem solving involving the dimensions of the football stadium and souvenir prices.

Class 3 have also made a link with Oaktree Primary School and have had fun looking at similarities and differences between themselves and the locations of their schools. Our children really enjoyed showing them our village location. We look forward to more exciting opportunities with these projects.
