Ecotricity public exhibition – updated

Note: Updated 19th June with details for letter sent to villagers

Date: Thursday 24th June

Time: 14:00 – 19:00

Where: South Marston Village Hall.

You may be aware that Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd (HUM) is proposing to install wind turbines on their site and that they have formed a partnership with Ecotricity. Ecotricity are wind specialists and green electricity company based in Stroud.

Follow the completion of a series of environmental assessments, Ecotricity are now preparing to submit a planning application to build three wind tubrines on the HUM site at Swindon.

Prior to submitting an application to Swindon Borough Council, we will be holding a public exhibition about the proposal at two different venues on two dates. The details of these events are listed below:

24th June 2010 between 14:00 and 19:00 at South Marston Village Hall, South Marston.

30th June 2010 between 14:00 and 19:00 at Meadow Croft Community Rooms, Addison Crescent, Upper Strattion.

Members of the team from Ecotricity and HUM will be there to discuss the proposal and the environmental assessment work that has been completed with local residents, and to answer any questions you may have. If you are unable to make it, please do not hesitate to get in contact directly if you require any information regarding the proposal. We are aware that wind energy is a complex subject and at times it can be useful to get a direct answer from the developer involved.

These tubrines will generate electricity from a renewable source and, due to the fact that it is on site, generation will assist HUM in ensuring the security of their electricity supply whilst reducing the emissions from the site in line with new legal targets for the car industry. Achieving both of these objectives through installing wind turbines on site will strengthen the place of HUM in Swindon within the global car manufacturing market. If these turbines are built, they will generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of an estimated 5,389 typical homes annually (7%) of the homes in Swindon Unitary Authority Boundary.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact: honda@ecotricity.co.uk.

  1. we agree, one weeks notice for the meeting just wasn’t enough and we couldn’t attend. we would very much like to raise some concerns but can’t seem to find out who to send them to at honda, ecotricity or sbc – any ideas would be appreciated. thank you.
