Scholarship places for boys and girls age 9-13 are up for grabs at the JTP Trust for youngsters who enjoy singing and are eligible for free school meals. Taster sessions will be held at Haydonleigh School on Tuesday 8 January and at Lydiard Park Academy on Friday 11 January 2013. Both sessions will start at 5.30pm.
The JTP Trust are able to offer scholarship places as a result of their sellout performances of ‘Swindon: The Opera’, a contemporary opera project performed in July 2012, which covered Swindon’s cultural heritage from 1952 to the current day.
Janice Thompson, Director of the JTP Trust said “After winning the BIG Lottery Grant, the trustees agreed they’d like to continue to offer singing opportunities to local children after the project was complete. Offering scholarship places is our way of achieving this important goal.”
The JTP Trust was set-up in Swindon in 2004 and aims to promote, improve, develop and widen public education and appreciation of vocal music through classes, workshops and presentation of recitals and concerts. Former students of the Trust have appeared in West End productions and the Trust is proud to have singers in professional opera companies and national youth choirs. Lessons are offered for boys and girls age 4 upwards.
To book a taster session, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01793 535185. Children not in receipt of free school meals are also very welcome to attend.
JTP Trust singers performed a striking arrangement of seasonal numbers to a full house at their annual Christmas concert ‘A Christmas Garland 2012’ held at St Mark’s Church in the Railway Village on Sunday 2 December 2012. The audience were also entertained by talented local singers who took part in ‘Swindon: The Opera’, together with special guests Yvette Cummings (Soprano), Olivia Clarke (Clarinettist) and Just 4 Fun (Trombone Quartet).
