Parish Councillor Vacancy
South Marston Parish Council currently has two vacancies on the Parish Council. If you would like to know more about becoming a Parish Councillor and would be interested in joining the team, please contact the Parish Clerk via email: email@example.com.
Sylvia Brown – South Marston Parish Councillor
It was as far back as 1988 when I first became a Parish Councillor, but for the past year I have been the council’s Vice Chair. I enjoyed a long apprenticeship in village volunteering, having at various times chaired the playgroup, the South Marston Recreation Association, helped run the Youth Club and served on the PTAs at primary and
secondary schools. My particular role on the Parish Council is as a member of the Finance group, making sure we use our public funds wisely. I also represent South Marston when it comes to relationships with other local parish councils and with Swindon Borough Council. Over the years, key challenges have all been associated
with planning matters, so I have found myself acting as a lay planning ‘expert’. This has been put to good use in
negotiating South Marston’s position in respect of development east of Swindon.

Parish Council Meetings
Members of the public are welcome to attend Parish Council meetings which are held on the third Tuesday of the month, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. There is an “Open 10 Minutes” section at the start of the meeting where you are invited to ask questions or discuss an agenda item. It would be helpful if you could inform the Chairman at the start of
the meeting of any items that you wish to raise or discuss. All agendas are published on the village website and on the village notice boards,
