Community Speedwatch – We need volunteers

speedwatchThe Community Speedwatch scheme run by the Swindon Borough Council in conjunction with the Police gives local people the chance to be actively involved in making South Marston’s roads safer for everyone in the village. We have been operating for nearly two months now and have monitored speeds of nearly 700 vehicles on the three main roads in the village 30mph zone. Overall only 2% of the cars were exceeding 36mph and of these, none were on Highworth Road, a few on Thornhill Road and the majority (three quarters) on Old Vicarage Lane past Manor Cottages.

If you want to join the team, please contact the village co-ordinator Tony Leathart on 827744 or tony.leathart@btinternet.com.

  1. Nice to see an idea I floated over 2 years ago is now in operation. No surprise where the speeding is. It was a constant danger on that stretch when I walked into or out of the village.
Not helped by the manner of parking by the cottages.
