August and September of this year saw a complete refurbishment of the children’s play area on the recreation field. Repairs have been carried out and repainting done, and we have been very pleased by the number of villagers who have commented on how good it is now looking.
South Marston Recreation Association (SMRA) is enormously grateful to the Trustees of the F and E Harris Trust for their very generous donation, without which this amount of work would not have been possible.
Virtually everything that happens on the field is as a result of volunteers, but a proper overhaul of play equipment required more expertise than we can command.
SMRA’s general running expenses, which cover hedge-cutting, field maintenance, upkeep of the changing rooms and kitchen etc. are covered not only by fund-raising via Summer Fete and Christmas Bazaar, but also by generous support from the Parish Council.
The F and E Harris Trust has assisted SMRA on previous occasions, in the purchase of a set of swings and also replacement of wooden marquee poles to aluminium. We thank them again for their continuing and generous support.
