South Marston Youth Club Grant

TEENAGERS have received a much-needed boost after a £770 grant was handed to the South Marston Youth Club to pay for gaming equipment.

The group can look forward to even livelier evenings in the village hall after being awarded the community grant by The Midcounties Co-operative from the society’s Community Fund.

The group was one of seven good causes in the town given grants totalling £7,930.

The Swindon Downs Syndrome Group also received a donation, which it will use to run a 12-week drama group, finishing with a performance that will be attended by Ruth FitzJohn, president of The Midcounties Co-operative.

The donations are part of the society’s ongoing commitment to give back to the local communities in which it trades, and this round of presentations has seen £84,824 donated to recipients in The Midcounties Co-operative’s trading areas.

Tarra Simmons, deputy group general manager for Co-operative social responsibility at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “Community groups and charities provide essential education, support and social activities for the local area, and we are proud to provide these Swindon organisations with funds to support their work.

“Our co-operative values mean we are committed to helping to build sustainable communities, and we are urging local groups to apply for the next round of funding.”

  1. It was fabulous receiving an award from the Midcounties Co-op to purchase new equipment, however the amount received was £770 and not the £2,000 as stated in the article. We very much appreciate the support we received and have already purchased a new air hockey and pool table which I am sure the children will love as we have been without these pieces of equipment for a while now.
