Conservation Area Working Day – Jan 2010

On Saturday 30th January around 12 local residents, including several children, spent a number of hours clearing the site of what is planned to become a nature conservation area. The site is in Highworth Road between the footpath leading to Greenfields and the bungalows and is now being leased from The Borough by the Parish Council.

It was a cold  but bright day, just the right sort of weather for hard physical work and there was plenty of that. The area was badly overgrown, mainly with brambles. The object was to clear away most of this so that the extent and features of the site could be assessed before the Conservation Group could develop a layout plan for it.

Everyone worked hard, particularly the youngsters, who seemed to enjoy themselves, despite the many scratches from the brambles.   The site was cleared, a skip was filled with rubbish and a fence made with materials from the site. All in all, a good day’s work

Our thanks to Neil Pullen from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust who provided the expertise, equipment and refreshments, Kelly’s Skips  and all those who gave of their time so generously. There is likely to be a follow up working party in March so please check the website and Tower & Tap for information.
