The Planning Process

All planning submissions, which contain hundreds of different documents, are available through the Swindon Planning portal at Simple Search. The links below give access to the governing documents as well as a summary of the major proposals.

South Marston Village Neighbourhood PlanAdopted in 2017 after a village referendum gave it overwhelming support, this is the ‘blueprint’ developed by the village, for the village.
The developers’ proposals are broadly consistent with the Neighbourhood Plan policies.

 

 

Swindon Borough CouncilPlanning decisions rely on a suite of documents covered by the overall term ‘Local Plan’.
See Policies NC3 and RA3 that cover the New Eastern Villages (NEV) proposals.

Draft Swindon Local Plan to 2043.   The first draft of Local Plan documents covering 2026-2043 was published in September 2025. See a summary of the Parish Council’s input here.

 

South Marston & Rowborough500 houses and new roads south of the village, with a further 1,880 at the new village at Rowborough.

Crown Timber Site

Planning permission is being considered for 57 houses, providing continuity of footways between the village and Hoddinotts Corner. Search for S/OUT/24/0128 on the planning portal.
