South Marston C of E Primary School Newsletter, dated 25 January 2019, has been published.
We have again been busy…
Last term Class 2 went on a fantastic trip to Windsor Castle. What made it even more exciting was the fact that The Queen was actually in residence at the time! They saw the state apartments and the room with all the coats of arms. This was especially interesting as Class 2 have been learning about their own family’s coat of arms. One child from the village even spotted his family’s coat of arms on the wall! They were also able to take part in a learning session about the castle and had the chance to dress up as knights in armour and learn what they did in the past. Everyone had a great day.
Also last term Class 3 had a special Viking visitor as part of their topic. Thor the Viking was very friendly and informative about the Viking way of life. Amongst other things the pupils learned about how they dressed, worked, cooked, enjoyed music and fought. The children and staff had an amazing day.
This term we have taken part in Fathers’ Story week and the children have loved having their Dads come in to school to join in with our fun. Amongst other things they have joined in with house building, gardening, PE, ICT and storytelling.
Many Dads from the village have taken part and we would like to thank all the Dads for their continued support.
The Swindon Advertiser are holding a competition to find out who is your (or your child’s) favourite teacher, details here.
We only have until Monday (13th June) to get our entries in.
Wouldn’t it be fabulous if one of the teachers at South Marston Primary School was in the paper!
I’m off now to buy my copy of the Adver and fill out the form to vote for my favourite teacher…
We have again had a very busy term.
We are very pleased to celebrate the fact that pre-school became part of the school on 1st April. We celebrated in real style with a children’s disco night organised by the PTA, which was enjoyed by all. The older children were even able to tuck in to some pizza prepared by our school cook before the event. Thanks to all those who helped organise and supervise the event. It was a huge success!
On 30th March the school had an inter-house cookery competition where a chef came in to support the children in making carrot and orange muffins! They were judged on many elements, including team work and of course the taste of their yummy muffins! All the children who took part, who were chosen at random, enjoyed the event thoroughly and all the children enjoyed being able to take a muffin home.
Our school celebration of talents evening on 6th April was a massive success again this year with all year groups being represented and showcasing a hugely impressive range of talents, ranging from drumming to poetry recitals. This year we introduced an art exhibition which enabled many children to show their talent in this area in the main school hall whilst sipping on something
