This edition opens with an intriguing discovery following recent clearance work at South Marston Brook. Steel grids recovered from a blockage have been identified as World War II relics, originally manufactured in the United States for the rapid construction of temporary runways, linking to South Marston’s aviation heritage. They have now found a new purpose at the allotments.
At the Recreation Ground, a developer’s contractor undertook exploratory work without prior permission, causing damage to the football pitch. South Marston Recreation Association acted quickly to arrange repairs, with costs covered by the developers, and new notice and safety protocols are now in place.
Meanwhile, Panattoni has completed its first warehouse unit, incorporating sustainable design features and enhanced landscaping. The Parish Council is continuing to collaborate closely with developers on a unified map, which integrates their internal footpath and cycle network with the new routes planned across South Marston and Rowborough.
Looking ahead, the next Have Your Say event will take place on the 3rd of June, followed by the Annual Parish Meeting. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their views on key matters, including the impact of footpath and road closures, and the proposed transfer of Village Hall ownership to the Parish Council.
