Signs have been put up on the entrance points to the Rec announcing its closure for Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th September for weed control spraying on the northern half of the Rec Ground.
The contractor is an expert grass management company and will be using weed control spray that is licensed and cleared for use on sports and amenity turf. There has been no record of any leaching into soil or dying of neighbouring plants and no risk of transfer of the spray after it has dried. Cat owners might prefer to keep their pets indoors between the hours of 11 and 4 on Monday 11th to stop them wandering onto the Rec before the spray has dried.
The operation is planned to start at around 11–11.30am on Monday and will take around half an hour to complete.
The closure of the Rec is to be absolutely sure that no people or dogs can stray onto sprayed areas while there is a chance of it still being wet. The weather is expected to be light winds, but warm and sunny so the spray should dry quickly and we may be able to
re-open the Rec on the Tuesday.
We hope that this reassures anyone with any concerns.
