F & E Harris Memorial Trust – May 2012

The government has increased the State Pension age for women to 65 phased from April 2016 to December 2018. A further increase will be phased in to raise the State Pension age for all to 66 from December 2018.

In consideration of these changes and the proposed expansion of the village community the Trust will be making the following changes to the criteria for allocation of Christmas Hampers to senior citizens of South Marston. These changes will be implemented on 1st April 2016.

The changes are not subject to the exact scheduling of government criteria.

  • To qualify for a Christmas Hamper the recipient is required to have been in permanent residency in South Marston for a period of 3 years prior to submission of registration.
  • All new applicants must be 65 years of age on 24th December 2016 to be eligible to register.
  • All new and existing applicants must be 66 years of age or over on the 1st January 2019 to be eligible to register.

Celebrating Harvest

The church was beautifully decorated—a huge thank you to the Flower Team for all their hard work. We had wonderful service it was good to welcome so many with splendid homemade cakes and drinks!

The gifts of fresh produce were given to Gloucester House and the groceries were given to Swindon Food Bank. Our plate collection is going to Tear Fund (find out more on the Tear Fund website) and we were pleased to send a donation of £200.

The School Harvest Service was excellent and it was such a joy to be able to share this with them in our church. It was the first time we used our new microphones and it made a huge difference.

South Marston Teachers Christmas Baby

Taken from Swindon Advertiser:

Marie Hendry, of Taw Hill, also had an early surprise as her son Lucas Beau arrived four days early at 4.18am Christmas morning.

The assistant head teacher at South Marston Primary School, 32, said she loved children and was happy to have one of her own.

“It’s a very extra special present,” Marie, who has been married to her husband Chris for five years, said.

“I feel great – he was four days early so it was bit of Christmas luck.”
