It’s that time again when ticks are very active.

Some ticks may cause Lyme disease and are found all over the UK but high risk places include grassy and wooded areas so please be careful when out walking.

Lyme disease can also be transmitted to domestic animals through the bite of a tick.

How to remove a tick

Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible and pull upward with steady, even pressure.

After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.

Never crush a tick with your fingers. Tick removal tools are available from pharmacies.
